How to convince your parents for a Facebook? - Sarah - 11-09-2012 04:24 PM

A lot of my friends have facebook, but my parents think I'm too little! I did like a powerpoint on it, but they said maybe. They told me that if I got one, and was friends with my 20 year old sister, that they wouldn't want me to see the stuff that she posts. What should I do?
I'm almost 12

Tell them to peak out of the stone age. Tell them its for education purposes.

I just got it anyway. it's just a social site. you grow with it. the site says you have to be like what.. 14/15 years old to have it? if your not that age yet, then ye, wait. I can understand why your parents are saying your too little if your younger than that age. Facebook is addictive and can affect a childs mind. trust me, I've gone down that road and its not a good one. Just wait until your 13/14. thats when I signed up. i didnt bother telling my parents, they just kind of figured it out Tongue

How old are you? A nice compromise for preteens whose parents are unsure about facebook is to allow them to have your password for a few years, that way they can check in to see what you're up to. Regardless they should at least be your facebook friend so they can see all of your public activity.

If there are things your sister posts that they do not wish you to see, you might want them to talk to your sister about adding you as a limited friend, that way she can control the content you can and can not see. Or if necessary you could just not add your sister at all for a few years, until they feel you're old enough to view the content she's posting.

Talk to them about privacy and limited availability.
