How do I stop someone reading my tweets? - Robert Robert Robert - 11-09-2012 04:38 PM

A family member has started following me on twitter and I don't want them reading the more risque things I have to say.
If I block them, can they find out?

The default lets EVERYONE see your tweets, they are public.
You can stop someone from following you but they can still go to your twitter profile and read them manually.

The best way to protect your updates from being read is to protect them:

You can protect your Tweets, meaning that only people you approve to follow you and the people that were previously following you can read your Tweets. It also gives you the option of denying permission to anyone currently following you to read your Tweets.

To do this:

Go to the "settings" tab of Twitter
Scroll down to the very bottom
The very last option is a checkbox next to "Protect my Tweets"
Check this
Return to your Twitter page
Click on "followers" in the top right under your username and icon
Under "actions" on the far right side of the box with their username, click "remove *username*"
