In what ways do you think the PC has destroyed the individual? - nicecrow246 - 11-09-2012 04:40 PM

I think of my father's handwriting, developed before widespread use of computers, how romantic, and personal it is; and how mine looks like shit because I type all the time. I think of Facebook destroying the meaning of friendship, and lose heart. Am I wrong?
DEAN, if i could give thumbs down I would. Thanks for your interest...but look up 'muscle memory'.

I agree, totally.

i agree 100%. I grew up in the 80s, before the internet and cell phones, but just barely before... Even computers were primitive back then and i never used them. I had more in common with people from 75 years ago than with people today. Because people who grew up 75 years ago had pretty much the same stuff i had. It's all changed now. And i really miss the old days.

The computer and internet have made family get-togethers rare or if it happens, everyone acts like they can't wait to leave. It makes people think and speak in short sound bites rather than real meaningful conversation. It makes people rush and rush everywhere, it makes them unfriendly. People act like they are withdrawing from a drug if they are away from their phone or computer for more than an hour.

I totally disagree.

People have always had good and bad handwriting. My step dad DEFINITELY learned how to write WAY before computers and never really was in to typing until computers. His writing SUCKS. And so does that of a LOT of people that age group.

My handwriting is pretty neat, and I do almost 100% of my written communication on the computer, and have for nearly 15 years or longer. I even take notes in college courses going back to school on my computer or phone.

I think the ABUSE of facebook has probably ruined some friendships, but facebook is just the newest way kids do what they do. The same things happened without the computer.

I think when you blame the computer, its easy to overlook the real causes.

The REAL reason your handwriting sucks is because you didnt practice your letters enough when you were learning how to write as a child. And you still dont today, with or without the computer. I mean, think about it, even if you werent typing all the time, would you be practicing the form of your letters, or just writing down what you write?

Regardless of what your buddy list on facebook is called, what destroy's friendships are people not caring about other people's feelings and fights and so forth.

And before parents played games on facebook all day, they watched soap operas all day. And before soap operas, they sat around and talked in their women's social groups. I mean, really.

Stop blaming the technology and start adjusting your own behavior.
