50 as of just recently. 40 of them are from high school which I havent seen in 18 years or so. I do believe in not adding people just to add them. Even if it is to play a game. My friend said on his page quote that he does not add anyone that allows access to any of his contacts and blocks all apps out. If your friend has that many he must not feel good about himself after I dont either but dont have a bunch of unknown people on there.

I have 102 friends.
My cousin has 1,203 friends && that's the most I have seen for a person I know.
