I am going on holiday and I do not want my Blackberry to download data as it is expensive and so I need to know how to turn off all notifications so that this doesn't happen, such as email and facebook message notifications. How can I do that or will it mean that I need to uninstall facebook / hotmail etc?

Goto your setting, apps, and disable notifications via the application you do not want to recieve.
