Is it bad that my step daughter calls me mom? - Kelly - 11-09-2012 05:04 PM

My stepdaughter is 4 and I have been in her life since she was 1 years old. My husband has full custody but his ex has visitation rights and she wants custody now. My stepdaughter spends most of her time with me and she's like my daughter it melts my heart when she runts to me and gives me a kiss. And she calls me mama. I know his ex is not happy about that and has told me to back off I'm not her mother but I have been in her life for so long is it wrong?

The child herself decided to do this. Everyone must respect her decision and support it.

It’s only wrong to the ex. When she gets older, your (step)daughter will make it clear to all of you whom she considers her mom to be. I don’t think she’s old enough to understand “when she’s around call me by my first name.” I hope this works out well for you, and that the ex doesn’t brainwash the child too badly.
My husband also had full custody of his 3 children when we got married. One died young, but the other 2 still call me Mom. They even has me listed as their mother on facebook - AND their birth-mom is on their friends’ lists. It’s not the word they call you that makes the difference, it’s how they hold you in their hearts.

-No Way !! A Child gravitates towards the Person who gives Them the MOST Love. And if That's YOU, then the "fault"- is Someone ELSE's ... Smile
