How do you break a Facebook addiction? - David - 11-09-2012 05:29 PM

I know this is pretty sad, but I waste way to much time on facebook. Do you have any advice how to motivate yourself to stay off facebook? Any help is appreciated, 10 points to the best answer!

Make it a habit not to check Facebook when you turn on your computer/smartphone.
Limit the amount of time that you are on Facebook.
If you are idling on Facebook (eg, just refreshing or waiting) get off.
Set your status to offline.

This requires willpower, if you can't break it, and need something to force you to delete your account.

Don't be hard on yourself. Facebook is one of the few ways to stay connected with people and you don't have to look your best!

First ask yourself, what benefit do I get from spending time on Facebook? Then make a list of alternative ways to receive that benefit.

For instance, maybe it allows you to be part of a group of people with whom you share an interest, like a love of animals or love of reading. You can go to http://www.meetup.com and find groups in your area with that interest and attend a meetup, in person (i.e. away from the computer).

Good luck.
