How do you politely decline an invite from an acquaintance? - iBelieve in TrueLove - 11-09-2012 05:35 PM

I got a facebook invite from my close friend's friend for party. I rarely go on fb and I have been to her party twice but I cannot make it this year. How do I decline her invite politely? "Thanks for the invite but I can't go" sounds way too weird to me. is there another way I can word this?

All you have to do is tell your FOAF that you have a previous engagement and can't make it but appreciate being invited. Don't make it too complicated, just simply say that.

If it's a message, reply "Thanks but I'm busy that night" (or similar).

If you got the invite as a FB event invite just click "No". Why answer politely when the invite itself wasn't polite?

There's no reason to lie, and unlike getting out of jury duty, it's not necessary to provide an excuse. "Won't be able to make it, but hope everyone has a blast!" or something similar should do.
