Why do Conservatives feel the need to lie about British and Canadian healthcare? - mikal_1978 - 11-09-2012 05:48 PM

Wait times? No more than in the U.S.
Treatment of difficult diseases and injuries? Same as the U.S. In fact, Professor Stephen Hawking (you know, the guy who is smarter than pretty much everybody else on the planet) has said several times that the British NHS saved his life.

Unsatisfied Canadians? Find a real one.

Stop making stuff up.

The GOP has to lie about EVERYTHING...Lies are all they got.

- Felonius Monkey - 11-09-2012 05:57 PM

They don't believe it's a lie.

I was the first person in my family born in the US, the rest are Canadian. I've spent years in Canada and in the US so I'm in a good position to compare the two healthcare systems.

First off, the Canadian system has its problems - I admit that. But the problems facing the US system are far greater. In the end it comes down to cost. You can argue all you want about abstract ideals of small government, meanwhile people die because they can't receive treatment.

Thank you. It's about time someone spoke the truth in this country.

You honestly think the guardian tells the truth?

I think this is the most sensible analysis I have read when it comes to the US Health Care debate.

@pdooma

At which hospital were you treated.

I am from England, and have always received good levels of treatment on the NHS.

The NHS has a lot of very dedicated staff and some very good hospitals, especially the major teaching hospitals.

As for waiting times, there are minimum targets, such as the new 2 week target for seeing a Cancer Specialist.

The NHS has also gone through a period of rapid modernisation in recent years, with many hospitals rebuilt or extensively refurbished.

A few NHS Trusts

I really wish the Canucks would be more vocal regarding the falsehoods that have been spread about their healthcare system here in the U.S.

There are a lot of real ones in that poll. Or.. is this hyperbole?

Then go enjoy...

You don't see Americans flocking to UK or Canada for health care, do you? In fact, the opposite is true. Get a clue.

- pdooma - 11-09-2012 05:57 PM

Having experienced the UK's system first hand, I can tell you the hospital was dirty, the equipment was old, the wait time was long, the people waiting with me were dissatisfied. By the time I finally got in to see a doctor, he looked at me, told me the equipment they needed to diagnose what was wrong was broken, then he shook my hand, wished me luck and told me to have a nice day.

So, that's my personal story with the UK health system.
