I mean, they give no notifications like on facebook. So when I tweet at someone do I have to scroll through there profile looking for their response? Thanks.

It use to be like that (which i hated), Good thing twitter updated to the new layout, now all you have to do is go to the tab that says @mentions

There are no notifications.
All you get is mentions
"Mentions" is found under the "what's happening" bar, where there is timeline, retweets, searches, etc...
