Does it make sense to follow 1000 pages on Twitter? - Oxacuk - 11-09-2012 06:00 PM

I always thought that the purpose of Twitter was to filter out the tons of information on the Web so that only those pertaining to persons/things/fields of greatest interest to one reaches him/her. Now, if a user follows 1000 pages, there are to me only three options:

1. I don't know the purpose of Twitter.

2. That user is a fool.

3. That user is superhuman: He/she has greatest interest in 1000 persons/things/fields!

Can someone enlighten me?

As much as it makes sense to have 1k to 3k friends on facebook.
It depends on what you try to do with your account.

What I mean is that for a company following a lot of people make a lot of people following it and its good marketing wise.

For somebody who tries to make friends or become popular its the same.

Some other people in the other hand try to have a more private web environment. Twitter become the tool that keeps you up-to-date with who's doing what second-to-second/minute-to-minute/hour-to-hour.
