Why does a person who has always acted like a friend (although not extremely close) in real life ignore a facebook friend request? It seems especially strange to me, considering that some people I barely know have sent me requests or quickly added me as a friend.

Maybe they don't like you as much as you thought. Also, they might not want you to see their personal information.
