...by showing photos of them, and then the hotter you are (which is pretty relative in certain respects like if you look like a male or female model), the more friends you have and the more people respond to you "statuses".

Facebook is all about ego so obviously people act like tools. Just dont be a social tool as well and delete your facebook account is the 'answer'.
