What effect would it have on the world if FACEBOOK shut down? - Robbie - 11-09-2012 06:14 PM

What would happen if for some reason, the government demanded Facebook to be closed down & never to be opened again?

Then people would make more of an effort to contact each other forming stronger relationships.

Thousands of teenagers would commit suicide as they would have to go out and actually talk to people.

Not a bad thing when all is said and done.

People would actually physically talk to one another.

- Breanna - 11-09-2012 06:22 PM

People would be less lazy

Facebook is both positive and negative (along with many other social media outlets).

If it were to close the good points would be kids and idiots would stop living their lives through computers and mobile phones all the time and actually speak to their friends face to face. I used to hate getting the bus as there were so many school kids messy around with their phones, chatting online or through messenger, anything than talk to the person they were with, you'd put money that is they were travelling with the person they were messaging they'd be messaging the person the were with!

The negative would be the loss of an important tool in liberalisation of many suppressed people and countries. Many of the uprisings in the middle east and north Africa have been orchestrated through social media. Governments from countries such as China who have awful human rights records have been forced to re-access due to the new outlets their people have through social media.

I can put up with some foolish kids with their heads in the clouds if it can revolutionise the world for the better.

I have a Facebook account but never use it, I do however like the fact my friends put pictures up of when we've been out together or on holiday or at a wedding or something.

I'd be delighted.
