My friend is looking for her real father. She knows his name but wants to know where he lives and such. So how do I go about finding him?

If she has his name start with facebook or myspace for an initial search. This is just a matter of luck and you might find someone with the same name that is not him. You don't mention if she is an adopted child or just lost touch with her father a long time ago. If she is an adopted kid she needs to find out if she was adopted in an open adoption or a closed adoption. In an open adoption the agency who handled her case will have the information available to her, probaly his last known address or a next of kin to contact. If it was a closed adoption the files are hard to open and she might have to wait until she is an adult to get a lawyer and help her with that. If she lost touch with him and her mother doesn't know where she should start there is always the good old fashioned phonebook, it works.

Ouch - I can't help you there, but if she's old enough she should be able to use the adoption registries throughout the country. If his name is a common one, it won't be easy. She should try looking for her original birth certificate first and go from there.
I'm helping a friend look for his daughter. I know how frustrating it can be. Best of luck
