How to keep a child from continually cussing? - ★Davidica★ - 11-09-2012 06:20 PM

I was just on facebook when a friend of mine with 4 year old twins said that she needs some advice to stop one of them from cussing. She's done soap (lol), time-out, taking toy privileges away and even spanking. What can she do?
I figured as much (when it comes to the usage and it's too late now) and yes, my first reaction would be to slap him but it looks like he's not responding to any of the above mentioned discipline.

Stop cussing in front of the kid, kids are more likely to do what you do than what you say.

Keep track of the number of times cuss words are used during the day on something visible to everyone in the house (a chart on the refrigerator or something). Give rewards for each hour/day that the number of cuss words used goes down.

Tell your friend that children learn from the masters, which probably means your friend cusses alot around her children or exposes them to movies and tv filled with cussing as well. Children will think if mommy and daddy can say it then they can to.

Maybe she should watch her own potty mouth first.

children are very impressionable
so to get them to stop
the people around them are gonna have to stop
simple as that as far as getting the adults to sop
good luck

A friend of mine is having the same trouble with her 3 year old. she tried soap one day, but we busted out laughing when after he apologized he said: You know mommy, that really tasted like shit."
