My boyfriend has hacked onto my facebook before and changed my password to spy on me. I'm not doing anything wrong, I just would like a little privacy and choice in the situation, and I was just wondering, what are the necessary steps so he can not get into my facebook as easily as he did.
ie change something on my e-mail, change my security questions and how to do all of this

Click the "forgot password" or "I can't access my account" button on your email to change your email password
Then change your Facebook password by clicking "Forgot password"
Then to make your profile private, click settings>privacy settings>profile information
However, if your doing nothing wrong just to show that, you may wanna like keep your profile open or add him as a friend (if u can get him to join facebook)
but hacking was crossing the line

I found so many topic in the internet to set private profile in FB.
but do they know if we can still open it with some FB application?

Yes change your password, and change it frequently. Also, check your other security settings as well:
