I have been attempting to access Twitter from my mobile phone and keep encountering this error message. i can get on to any other site, but i have been trying this for 20 minutes with no luck. what can i do?

In Geek talk:
"504 Gateway Timeout: The server was acting as a gateway or proxy and did not receive a timely response from the upstream server"
In English:
It just means the connection is taking too long, and failing. Could be something as simple as a poor wifi/3g connection on your phone. Or maybe one of the twitter servers is being overworked.
