Sometimes, people just add friends for games, so that's another reason. - Amanda - 11-09-2012 07:21 PM Sometimes (often in school) it is a popularity contest other times (especially when you start changing schools/moving away/going to a bunch of different activities where you meet tons of people) it is a really easy way to stay in touch and keep up with others' lives/share your own. While you may have a close group of friends you chat with regularly, facebook allows you to cast a wide net and stay in touch by voluntarily posting things in a semi-public forum so that everyone can see what you are up to instead of you having to send an individual email to each person you want to know about something.
