If you need tips on how to have a simple conversation then your relationship is in trouble.

First why facebook? If it one on one chat then it ok but if it is public where all your friend can see it then I would suggest just saying "how are you" and " whats up" is fine or "what you're doing" but if you want to start a conversation on a personal level or anything like that I would recommend face to face is the best. In my opinion, going out is best way to start a conversation and get to know each other.

...This is not a good thing, you shouldn't have a problem with talking to your boyfriend, if you can't communicate the relationship will not work. You should do some serious thinking about this, why are you going out with him, what makes him desirable to you?? Why did you agree to go out with him if nothing about him interests you???

Alas, I will help you anyway. But seriously...

How was your day? *If you can be more specific the better eg. How was the hockey game? How was the movie? How was math class?

Make plans. Eg. Are you free tonight, want to catch a movie? Do you have a soccer game tonight, would you mind if I came to watch? Are you free Friday, want to (insert what ever)?

My advise, get invested in him, learn everything he likes, dislikes. If you want this to work you have to make a conscious effort to take interest in his life. Relationships are a 2 way street, you both need to do things for and with each other, even if its calling to talk if he's had a bad day, rather than texting "R U OK?" Be personable. Treat him the way you'd like him to treat you.
