How can I explain to my paranoid mother about facebook? - Julie - 11-09-2012 07:20 PM

I just kinda want one. I just left camp and I miss my camp friends. It's the way to communicate right now. I know its completely safe and such, but my mom doesn't get it. How can i assure her that it's perfectly fine to have one and that i won't get abducted???

You are wrong. It's not the way to communicate. It's a way to waste your live by sitting in front of computer.
A way to communicate is to talk to people in person or on the phone.

1. Don't put any personal contact information into the fields. If some one on there is a friend, then they will ask you for your phone number or email address. Show your mom that there is no truly identifying info in your profile
2. Only invite people you truly know and make sure that your pictures, etc are set to "Friends only." Show your mom that only invited guests can see any information, pictures, etc. about you.

Let your Mom know that you are safe and never give out any info online.

Explain to her that your profile is invisible to anyone who you do not know. Only people you know and trust can contact you on facebook.
