It was working up until a few days ago. Then all of a sudden, I can no longer see the notifications. Anyone know how I can make it so I can see the notifications again?

You're not the only person complaining. I forgot to download a new version and kept Facebook 1.5...turns out that it's doing well, but friends who recently updated a new program have problems.
Try downloading Facebook 1.5 instead
