What does it mean to picket a funeral? - Karter - 11-09-2012 07:23 PM

I have heard recently that Westboro Baptist Church is planning to picket Steve Jobs' funeral but I don't know what that means and I was hoping that someone could tell me. Smile
Thanks so much Smile

They like to protest at funerals, saying that for some batshit reason or another, god has stuck this person down in retribution. It's nuts. I don't know what they have against apple, and if I read their reasons I wouldn't understand anyway.

EDIT: I'm not even entirely sure it's not all some huge joke, or way to make money or something. They posted this news to twitter from a goddamned iphone

"Picketing," in this context, means to carry and display signs with political messages on them. The signs are usually attached to a stick that you can carry in your hands; the original meaning of the word "picket" (related to the word "pike") was "a stick or pole."
