What do I do about child porn on Facebook? - James - 11-09-2012 07:24 PM

What do I do when I see it? I live in Queensland Australia. I've reported the material, but I don't think that's enough because he lives in another country where he might get away with it if i don't do more. I've sent him a message pretending to be m younger brother and flirting. There is actually a lot of it, but I've only seen it today because of a few people I've added. Seriously needs to be dealt with!!

I agree, but it is somewhat country dependent. If he was caught in a country where it is illegal, then its difficult to get asylum, but while hes in a country that allows it, all you can do is report to the authorities and pray they get him.

Try contacting your local police department. I see a lot of news articles where police in different countries work together to catch those people, so they might have some way of getting in contact with police where he lives to have him arrested? If he has a location listed on his profile you could try contacting the police in that area also and see if they can look him up? He could easily be using a fake identity or something, but maybe they could at least try to check him out.

you've already done the right thing, you reported it. What you dont want to do is give free advertising to the person by warning everyone that its there. If your friends dont know about it and they cant find it, then all the better.

the only thing you can do is report it

Can't you block the offending page? Surely it is against the Terms and Conditions of holinfg a FB account, and if an email doesn't get their attention a "snail mail" letter to the CEO of FB if you can locate an address to send it? In the meantime tighten up your setting, blocking the offender, don't shame and name as they can backfire on you? Reporting to the Federal Police may help as well, they have a bit of clout overseas.
