Basically my friend wants to be my brother on facebook,and obviously seeing as he isn't my real brother I was wondering if we stopped being friends can I just take him off as my brother?

yeah, you just "edit info" and you can erase that information while still keeping him as a "friend"

just remove friend bu clicking 'remove from friends' on the bottom left side of his profile

Yes, just go to his profile and then remove him from your friends, or goto privacy settings and you can choose what your brother does or doesn't see.

edit your profile information and take him off as a brother. or you could ignore his sibling request.
