How to find out if someone had a baby? - John L - 11-09-2012 07:31 PM

I am close friends with a mom and daughter. The mom has not seen the daughter in "a while'.The daughters listed address is still at her moms residence. The other day a social worker asked about her daughters baby. The mom was (to say the least) was "floored".The mom really wants to know about her grandchild. She wants to know if it is still with her mom, or put up for adoption. This child is approx 4 months old and is a female.

How would she be able to find out "the truth" in the matter?

It would depend on your states laws. If the daughter is underage, the mother has rights to her daughters medical records. If she is over the legal age, your state may offer public birth records. To help you, have the mother of the baby (her daughters) full maiden name, date of birth and if she knows who might be the father, him name as well. You could also try and reach out to her with sincerity and loving arms at which maybe a very emotional time for the girl. The internet is a great source to find people (facebook, familysearch.org, google...)

You can search birth certificates at your local courthouse, I believe

Hi, The mom needs to speak with her daughter.

Most states do not allow you to browse through birth certificates. they are protected, A few state post births online at places like ancestry.com, but those are not for current years. As a social worker knows this mother and child, Social Services is probably involved, at least for medical coverage. This indicates the daughter is at least 18.

If the mom is truly concerned, she needs to find her daughter. She can check with friends, online social sites like facebook, relatives, etc., and make amends with her daughter.
Hoping for the best...
