(Its a friend on twitter btw, not in real life) How to say 'Please dont be formal around me becase I'm your friend' lol something like that. Japanese are "formal", he can be formal because he likes - rhubarb - 11-09-2012 07:49 PM "saying sumimasen frequently" could possibly be one of his habits and he might not really mean "I'm sorry", so if you said, "Please don't be formal around me becase I'm your friend' (= "tomodachi nandakara sonnani foomaru ni shinaku-temo ii yo"), he would say "sumimasen!" AGAIN... So why don't you say, "Hey, I don't want you to say sumimasen to me so often... because I'm your friend." (= sonnani 'sumimasen' tte ayamaranaide! tomodachi nandakara.)
