Because I know my friends will make a big deal out of it(Spread it on facebook,follow us around and say stuff, and just generally mock me) My girlfriend kinda wants me too but can't we just let it be personal? Or is this selfish?

Well, your girlfriend might get the wrong idea...that she embarrasses you or something along those lines. Just tell your friends.
