you know , this is mainly a thing for famous people, not saying you can not be famous in your world of contacts. just invite all your friends to follow you, did you know that 30% of the people who sign up for twitter will drop in with in a week.

I got 100's from the list at http://bit.ly/followfriends They are like a blog list a people that follow back, they list each week people that want follows and are willing to follow. Also, u should do a follow friday status update and add yourself in it. U must use #followfriday or my new one is #FFVIP This will allow others to search for follow friday tweets and begin following. So this is an example: #FFVIP @user1 @user2 RT
thats it. if u post that with real users and that RT on the end so others will "re-tweet" then u will reach alot of people. These two things will help u out greatly. U can follow http://twitter.com/ffvip which stands for follow friday VIP they are a group of just follow back tweeps! lol Good luck

The best tip: search for topics that interest you (#yourinterest), and try to mingle in the conversation.
