Twitter is only status messages when Facebook is status messages plus a whole lot more... it's just something I've never understood.

Twitter is more popular because it's more organized and well put together. Facebook sucks and is a thing from the past. I suggest you move up from Facebook to Myspace b4 jumping str8 to twitter

I've never understood it either. I suspect it may have to do with the fact that because Twitter has no features, while Facebook has so many, that it makes Twitter appear easier and less intimidating for new users.
I don't mean to over generalize, but from my experiences, Twitter appears to be more popular with older generations and those who aren't as tech savvy. The simple interface helps them feel more comfortable when using a computer.
