Can you get a virus from firefox? - xd - 11-09-2012 08:34 PM

I was on my laptop one day when I got a virus from facebook, also, my father said it was from Firefox, so is it likely that it did come from firefox or am I just being paranoid because really, I'd love to go back to using firefox.

Firefox wasn't the problem. The Internet was. Whatever file you downloaded that set off the virus scanner was the problem, not the program you used to download it.

I love some of the older generation... It was whatever page you viewed. Not firefox.

It wasn't firefox. Its Windows vulnerabilities.
Firefox is a great browser. You can go up to the tools, addons and look for more addons.
I use noscript, adblocker plus (EasyList subscription) and betterprivacy - all free. All you do is select more addons when you get to that add on screen, then when the browser page comes up look under the privacy and security link for these. They are top downloads so they are at the top of the page, middle column.

hope this helps

Ok, you probably know now that firefox is not the issue here.

Chances are,you clicked on a link that leads you to a virus. Avoid clicking malicious links. Install anti virus, malware and spyware applications plus firewall.

Avira for anti virus
Spybot search and destroy for spyware
Zonelab for firewall

All of the applications i mentioned above are free.

FB is a prime source of malware, Firefox is merely the conduit to your machine.
"GameDay" has good add-on suggestions, and also know this:
â–º Firefox has been hacked by Microsoft.
Microsoft has installed (without your informed consent) into Firefox, rubbish that degrades the security of Firefox to little more than IE.
Check your FF> Tools> 'Add-on's'> "Extensions" & "Plug-in's" boxes, and uninstall/disable .NET framework, Windows Presentation Foundation, Shockwave, Silverlight.
These hacks re-enable the JavaScript exploit avenue.

The Silverlight (and maybe more) will try to re-install after some MS updates, so these procedures must be constantly monitored & redone when necessary.

Whatever you do: DO NOT go back to using Internet Explorer!
