What would you do with a father that is either a pathological or compulsive liar? - roundSamurai143 - 11-09-2012 08:50 PM

My dad is older (in his 70's) and his whole life he makes up these ridiculous stories. They are really getting out of hand. His latest was to tell me that his dear friend committed suicide but then the day after he told me she was writing on his wall on Facebook. I really don't care but the lies are starting to effect my children.

My Mother was the same way. She'd just lie to be lying. It was always really meaningless stuff too. I just confronted her about it and asked her to stop. And the few times she's slipped up I've just pointed it out. As far as I know she's doing fairly well. But then again, it's not possible for me to know for sure. Your father is much older than my mom though so I don't know if a confrontation would be a good or bad thing. Maybe a family intervention would help. Sit him down and let him know you'd like to remember him for things that were true when he's gone rather than the lies.
