I am totally ignorant. Would someone please explain to me how to work facebook and how to use chat and messenger. Please no answers to make fun. I really need the help with this question, Thank you very much.

When spmepne is signed in and your on a computer then you can chat with them at the bottom of the screen.

It's easy down the bottom right of your screen it says 'chat' click on it to view your online friends click on them to chat 'type then click enter' next to the person name it has an x with closes the chat in the chat option you will see green dots next to peoples names indicating that they are online if they have a half moon means they are away, up the top of the chat it has two tabs one that says friends list and the other options friends list is to make list of friends in options you can go offline - pop out chat and a number of other options

both people should be online to chat.
Both have to allow /add each other to chat.
from the chat list click the one you want to chat with, and start chatting.

Facebook Chat is Facebook's answer to instant messaging. IM, or chat on Facebook, is really quite easy. All you need to chat on Facebook is a Facebook account, nothing to download or install.
When you log into Facebook you're automatically logged into Facebook Chat so you can chat on Facebook. Just go to your Facebook page and you can start to chat on Facebook right away.
At the bottom of every Facebook page you'll see your Facebook Chat tools. The first of the three Facebook Chat tools is the online friends tool. This simply tells you which of your Facebook friends is online right now. The next Facebook Chat tool is notifications which will let you know if you have any new Facebook notifications right from the tool. The third tool in Facebook Chat is the actual chat tool.

Press the button of someone you want to chat with in the bottom right.

There is a pop up of chat shows at lower right side after logging in on Facebook just click there and see who is online. Click on the person name with whom you wanna chat and then start chatting via Facebook. Simple
