Someone please explain Twitter to me? - _SimplyAshleyy_ - 11-09-2012 09:08 PM

I've had one for like 3 years. But it seems lately thats what everyone is using. Even on facebook i see statuses with #blahblahblahblah following it,, and i guess that has to do with Twitter? I just dont get it. You post whats on ur mind pretty much,, but whats up with all the other stuff? like connect and discover? Can someone just please give me the 411 on twitter?

I'm no expert either, but I'll give it a shot.

Words that are prefixed with a hash (#) are called hashtags, and they're used to describe what you're talking about, or your mood. #happy, #sad, #merrychristmas, #hailsatan etc etc.
"Trending" is when lots of people use a certain hashtag or mention a certain thing in tweets, such as #thosethreewords or Justin Bieber.
I've never seen "connect" or "discover" on twitter, just by the way.
You can also at-mention people, which involved putting the "at" symbol (@) before their twitter username, which is pretty much the same thing as tagging people in statuses on facebook.

Hope I was helpful! And my personal opinion, people who use hashtags on facebook are just wannabe hipsters Wink
