People do it to connect to their Twitter accounts. Its called a hashtag and its really annoying lol

It's a kind of joke based on twitter. With twitter, you can use hashtags (#) to identify or search for tweets based on a particular subject. People do it on facebook just to be cute or funny.

A Hash-tag is a user-created standard for identifying tweets belonging to a topic.

It's a Twitter phenomenon where the users use the hashtag symbol to relate tweets to a particular subject. They use it on Facebook purely because it would give more effect to their status as any Twitter user would understand this. Ignore it, it is a pain.
