Do you think facebook is more of a benefit or does do more harm in people's lives, especially teenagers? - KD - 11-09-2012 10:19 PM

Its sad how in 10 yrs time this is how its going to be:
Child: "So mum, how did you and dad meet?"
Mother: "Facebook"....

All those beautiful stories about meeting in bars will be lost forever.

First of all, what is wrong with meeting on Facebook? What's the difference between meeting there as opposed to meeting in a bar as the first responder pointed out? Or at a dance, a dating site, or a party? Just 20 years ago, your only options to meet someone is who you could find by sight in your town.

Secondly, Facebook is like anything else. People will only know about you what you tell them. If you want to remain anonymous, don't reveal anything.

I think that unless you are very careful, you can reveal to much info on it.Kids that are to young to know better can give away info that can be harmful to them and their family.

There are both advantages and disadvantages.
Facebook can help a teen be more social and popular, and they can also learn more about what is acceptable and what is not. They can ask each other for help on homework and use it for research as well as communicating and sharing great ideas.
However, it can also be dangerous. It isn't always safe, and you can end up meeting 'dodgy' people or websites, and the adverts aren' always child friendly. It can also be addictive, and harm the child's education.
About the meeting on facebook thing, it isn't a very good idea because it shows your teen that meeting someone they probably don't know online is acceptable and can lead to a happily ever after ending, which it may not.

So yeah, that's it. I think facebook is great, but can also be deadly.
