Is it illegal to put a photo of someone on the internet if it is your photo and they dont like it? - KitKat - 11-09-2012 10:32 PM

My friend asked me if this was illegal and I didn't know the answer.

If you take a photo of someone (say you go to a party) and you put all your photos from that night on something like facebook or twitter. If the person says they dont like the photo, is it illegal if you keep the photo on there?

No it is not illegal but if it offends a friend then just delete it for them - no big deal.

It's not illegal at all. If it was a public photo and the other person had no reasonable expectation of privacy, then there's nothing illegal about it. A person could always threaten to sue, but it's doubtful that they'd ever be successful.

No, it is not illegal. You took their picture with their discretion in the first place, and they can't change their mind since it's already up. It's your photo. You can choose to keep it or delete it.

The photograph may be of YOU but it's MY photo so I can do with I want with it.

No...I wish it was! I'd have my aunt arrested immediately for putting up the worst pictures of me on her facebook page.

No that's not illegal it's only a breach of copyright when you save a photo off the internet without the person's or companies permission

Though the rights to the photograph are yours if you took it, that does not mean you can use it, if the object owner or person does not give you permission to use it.

In this case, she doesn't like it, she's asked you not to post it, though I doubt she'd go to the lengths of taking you to court, you shouldn't post it.

This is from a photography point of view, not a "mates" point of view in which this sort of thing frequently goes on and if I had a pound for every pic of me posted when I have ten chins, I'd be a millionairess.

it's not litterally illegal but he can complain on you
