Do you have to make payments rest of your life if you get divorced? - Donkey - 11-10-2012 12:14 AM

I recently read a news that dogs whisperer got divorced with his wife. Now, he has to pay $10,000 in child support and $23,000 for spousal payment / month. Does he have to pay $23,000/month for spousal payment for rest of his life?

Yes,he will have to pay until she marries someone else.

depends on the agreemnet

my alimony was only for 15 months ,or until she got remarried before that(she didn't)

hit men charge a heck of a lot less, but alimony can be for her lifetime unless she remarries--child support to 18 or a determined age if agreed upon

I really wish these rich guys would consider asking us people down at the bottom of the heap about ways to deal with these issues, other than what their high price attorneys tell them. The child support should go into a trust fund.

As for Alimony, much has changed in that regard. Even if she does not remarry, which would stop it, states are considering living with a man as the same thing.

That is what has happened in Massachusetts just last month. Now, Private Investigators are heading there in droves to spy on ex-wives to see if they are living with someone in a relationship.

That is major for that state as when the man remarries, the income of his second wife is use to increase both child support and his alimony payments.

For 22 years, I have volunteered my time working with divorced/single fathers dealing in family law issues, such as child support, teaching them about what the states are not telling support obligors.
