Facebook sends you notifications after you comment on a photo, status or changed relationship but after how many notifications does facebook stop if you don't comment after that?

Facebook doesn't stop sending notifications

They will send you a notice every time someone else comments on something you posted or commented on, even if it is other people's post that you commented on. That way you will know if someone responded to your comment.
