The # symbol is what is called a "hashtag" on Twitter. It is used to mark keywords or topics in a Tweet or a trending topic.

There is more info on that web page regarding hashtags and how they are used.
So, thaThirst was marked with a hashtag (#). I'm assuming you know who has the ID of thaThirst.
