yes, you can send them a message from your email client, like gmail
their email address will be their URL (like this)
if his URL is http://www.facebook.com/billybob
then his email will be
billybob@facebook.com
the same applies if they havent chosen a username, in which case you would use the friend ID
http://www.facebook.com/1000223874
would be
1000223874@facebook.com
