Is it ok for my niece to do this ? - Horses2012 - 11-15-2012 08:45 AM

My niece is 5 years old and her mom signed her up for Facebook and she got the app on her IPod and we can't delete it it was on there when she got it. She wanted a Facebook so she can chat with her favorite band and sometimes she does. Is it ok for a 5 years old to be on Facebook ? Is it safe ? Her mom lied about her age she said she was 15.

no I don't think so, how good is her reading and spelling at 5 years old anyway

Of cours it's wrong. There's a age limit for a reason. I think the age limit for face book is to low anyway.

Unfortunately no. Facebook strictly prohibit anyone under the age of 13 from holding an account. Her mother is in the wrong for doing this, and if somebody realises and reports her to facebook (which can be done), she will be banned from signing up or holding an account until she reaches the minimum age, since whoever reports also specifies the age of the child in that report.

You could always turn her in to "The Facebook Gods"

I was going to say that as long as Mom or Dad is supervising it might be okay, but really no. Mom or Dad could friend the band and "chat" with them with the daughter. A five year old on facebook is completely inappropriate.
