Is "@" a new trend born from Yahoo Answerers and Questioners within the last week? - blit32 - 11-15-2012 08:51 AM

For Example:

Question asked by Billy: What is the meaning of life?

Answers:
Sandy: To live
Bob: To die
Naomi: OMG @Bob, you are so negative!

Is this "@" thing something new? I never saw it used this way before.

it's called Twitter. people do that when they are replying to someone or asking them a question posting on that persons profile on twitter.

I first saw this in various fora and blogs way back in as early as mid 2000 so I don't think it's conceptualized here on Y!A.

I noticed though that more and more people are using it, be it on blog or forum comments and also on various chat and social networking (e.g. Facebook, Twitter or Multiply) sites.
