Most people (rather, me) use twitter to 'talk' to their celebrities. There are things known as 'Twitter Parties!' Which basically means the celebrity, or whoever, looks into their reply box and reply people!
Twitter can also be used as a tool for knowing what's going on in the world. (That is if you follow the correct people). I think this can be espcially true for the entertainment industry.
Who just had their newest music video out.
Even for more serious things. Example: Earthquakes.
Someone (let's say a celebrity) was at the scene of the earthquake, and tweets about it during the earthquake. Fastest news.
Good for knowing what's 'hot' at the moment. Trending topics helps you with that, because mostly, fans will trend things like: #justinbieber. etc etc.
