Twitter question, help? - Ze Gryff... - 10-03-2012 02:43 AM

I opened my twitter and checked my direct messages. I then opened the direct message that my friend had sent me. It was an odd message; it said : "Hello somebody is posting terrible rumors about you" and ended with a link "tinyurl..."

Did this happen to anyone else? I didn't want to click the link because I'm not taking the risk of viruses going into my computer...

Is this a scam or something? Help!

Someone could have hacked into your friend's Twitter account and started posting those messages. Just keep doing what you're doing, which is not clicking the links, and report it to Twitter.

Yep, it's a scam so don't click the link or else you'll be sending the same DM to your followers.

It's deliberately aimed at your curiosity so the more people will click it. I had one and predictably enough clicked it. Then I did a bit or research, figured what had happed so spammed several tweets warning my followers and linking them to:
