willl they be able to see that im fallowing them ? will it show my number? or will they have no idea im getting updates? ill still be able to get updates sent to my phone even tho i dont have a twitter account myself and does it change anything if they have a protected account???

well u need an account cause you need to verify your number to get tweets via sms so no no it wont show your number and they can see that you follow them but if you get updates from them via sms they wont know that u get their updates

As far as i know, it's not possible to follow someone using SMS without a twitter account, there might be 3rd party services, but from twitter it self you just need to register on twitter (without posting anything) and follow the people you want to get updates to.
Twitter might implement something like this in the future if someone gives them the idea thought.
