Is Facebook only for showing off? - Kid A - 11-18-2012 01:01 PM

Because it certainly seems that way, I mean, what is actually the point in updating your status... It's just plain gormless, it's more a way of publicly self-promoting yourself. I mean, fair enough for those who use it to maintain contact with old friends, but it's mainly silly children with no intent but to show off, and show their lives in a better light than someone else's in order to gain more respect from their peers in some pathetic way.
You're both idiots.

Indeed but so is Myspace, Bebo, Twitter, Vampirefreaks etc. It will become just another fad like the rest and people will eventually get sick of it and move onto another site after that however it is good to catch up with a few old mates you haven't seen in ages and mates that are abroad. Being on Facebook doesn't make you "cool" but really who cares? Social networking sucks anyway but there's one thing you gotta give Facebook, the security is vastly superior to the other social networking sites and it will keep hackers occupied since they can't hack as easily as the other sites

a) people aren't idiots because they disagree with you.
b) in a way, it is for showing off. People facebook-stalk and judge others by their profile. But, it is also a way to stay connected, as they said. For example, when I went to sleepaway camp 2009, I made lots of friends and promised to "write" but no. By 2010, I had a facebook, and am constantly talking to my camp friends. Its a way to stay close.
Although, teens in certain social circles really do use it as a bragrights/showoff thing.
