my friends band uses myspace ALOT and they are actually on tour right now but you have to be a good band so people will tell their friends about you and go to your shows

Also - get gigs at bars, join a local musicians group and play at their functions. Make CDs and hand them out. Mail the CDs to local radio stations that play the kind of music you make.
