Yea, i think all you got to do is to write on your profile that you follow back, tweet, follow people, and hope that people will follow you!

First of all stop doing this follow me and I'll follow you method. It is really really infective and you won't get anywhere this way.
Ask you friends and family but that's about it, everyone hates spamers.
Anyways, there are several methods of getting followers but you always need to know that staying active is very important.
The method I've found the most effective is twitter followers exchange websites. You can earn real followers on a equal exchange ratio.

Try using hashtags, making proper tweets, and advertising yourself on other websites. Do you frequent forums, facebook, or other social networks? Use em'!
