I know it's possible to send direct messages with Twitter via SMS (text message) by sending "d + username + message" to 40404, but is it possible to *RECEIVE* direct messages to a phone via SMS?
I know it's possible to go to the mobile site for Twitter but internet takes up a lot of battery on my phone.

Text Messaging on Twitter
Setting up your phone allows you to:
Send tweets with text messaging on your phone.
Receive texts for DMs and the tweets from users you want to be notified about.
Clicking the phone icon on a users profile page or your followers page sets Tweet notifications for that user.

All you do is go to:
settings
click the drop box that says Device update and hit the arrow that says on.
Then click save!
